Montagave Tequila Blanco: An Exquisite Heritage Journey

Montagave Tequila Blanco represents a sophisticated bridge between the sun-drenched agave fields of Jalisco and the refined world of artisanal spirits. While many Blancos are bottled immediately after distillation, Montagave undergoes a unique "resting" period of at least six months in American oak barrels. This rare technique allows the spirit to retain the crystal-clear vibrancy of a Blanco while inheriting the mellow complexity and "rested" soul of a world-class distillate.

Crafted from 100% Blue Weber agave harvested at peak maturity, Montagave is a timeless expression that blends traditional Mexican heritage with contemporary elegance.

Tasting Notes

  • Color: Brilliant clarity with a platinum shimmer and heavy, silky tears. Aroma: A complex and inviting bouquet. Forward notes of bright citrus and fresh floral blossoms are beautifully anchored by the deep, savory scent of slow-cooked agave and a whisper of toasted oak.
  • Palate: A masterclass in balance. The entry is exceptionally smooth and mellow, delivering rich flavors of honeyed agave and sweet grapefruit zest. As it sits on the tongue, subtle layers of white pepper and light baking spices emerge, courtesy of its time in American oak.
  • Finish: Harmonious and clean. It leaves a lingering sweetness of cooked agave balanced by a crisp, peppery snap that defines a true highland tequila.

The Montagave Ritual

Because of its unique 6-month resting period, this is a "Blanco" that drinks with the sophistication of a Reposado. It is the ideal sipping tequila, best enjoyed neat in a flute or over a single large rock of ice, allowing the citrus and pepper notes to breathe. For those who prefer cocktails, it provides a luxurious, silky base for an Elevated Skinny Margarita or a Tequila Martini.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
