Embrace Tradition with Wahaka Abocado con Gusano Reposado Mezcal

This premium reposado mezcal artfully fuses centuries-old tradition with uncompromising flavor. Estate-grown Espadin agaves are patiently cultivated for 7-8 years amid the diverse soils, elevations, and terrains of San Dionisio Ocotepec before reaching full maturity.

An Artisanal Labor of Love

The piñas are cooked for 3-5 days in earthen pits over pine wood, imparting enticing smoky notes. After crushing with a tahona millstone, open-air fermentation of 10-12 days allows native yeasts to spark the transformation. Double distillation in copper pot stills refines the flavor.

Oak-Aged with an Iconic Oaxacan Accent

The hearts of this exceptional mezcal are then mellowed for 4-6 months in re-charred American oak barrels, achieving a rich caramel hue. Following traditional Oaxacan methods, agave worms are infused into each bottling, adding signature depth and complexity.

A Rich Tapestry to Savor

On the nose, this reposado seduces with aromas of sweet agave nectar, caramelized tropical fruits, and a hint of earthy smoke. The palate ventures into layers of dark chocolate, cinnamon, dried fruits, and roasted nuts before resolving into a long, smoky-wood finish with trailing agave sweetness.

An Authentic Spirit to Sip or Mix Sip Wahaka Abocado con Gusano neat at room temperature to experience the full tapestry of flavors. It also elevates premium cocktails like the Oaxacan Old Fashioned with its mellow yet complex character. Embrace the iconic traditions of Oaxaca in each sublime bottling.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
