Introducing Wahaka Mezcal Abocado con Gusano, a premium reposado mezcal that boasts a delectable fusion of tradition and flavor. Our master distillers take estate-farmed Espadín agave, harvested after maturing for 7-8 years, and artfully age it in American oak barrels for 4-6 months. This meticulous process results in a remarkably smooth and richly caramel-hued mezcal.

The Espadín agave is carefully cultivated in the diverse soils and terrains of San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca, in the district of Tlacolula. The varied altitudes and habitats in the region contribute to the mezcal's unique taste profile.

Our traditional production methods stay true to the roots of mezcal-making. The agave is cooked for 3-5 days in an earthen pit, fueled by pine wood, to impart smoky flavors. It is then crushed using a tahona, a circular millstone, to extract the precious agave juices. Fermentation occurs over 10-12 days in pine vats, utilizing wild yeast native to the region. The spirit is then twice distilled in copper stills for a refined and balanced flavor.

Aging in re-charred American oak barrels for 4-6 months, our mezcal is infused with agave worms, a traditional Oaxacan practice that adds depth and complexity to the spirit. Wahaka Mezcal Abocado con Gusano offers a delightful combination of smoky, sweet, and earthy notes, making it a perfect choice for sipping or mixing in your favorite cocktail.

Experience the rich heritage and unparalleled taste of Wahaka Mezcal Abocado con Gusano – a true testament to the art of mezcal-making.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
