Embrace the Refined Allure of Wahaka Abocado con Gusano Reposado

This artfully aged reposado encapsulates the harmonious union of smoky tradition and elegant oak refinement. Wahaka's estate-grown Espadin agaves are cultivated for 7-8 years amid the diverse soils, elevations, and terrains of San Dionisio Ocotepec before reaching full maturity.

An Artisanal Journey of Fire and Time

The piñas are cooked for 3-5 days in earthen pits over pine wood, imparting rich smoky complexity. After crushing with an ancient tahona millstone, open-air fermentation allows native yeasts to spark the transformation for 10-12 days. Double distillation in copper pot stills refines the intense agave essence.

Mellowed by Oak and an Iconic Oaxacan Accent

The intense heart of this exceptional mezcal is then gently rested for 4-6 months in re-charred American oak barrels. This patient aging process lends a delightful caramel hue and slightly smoother mouthfeel. In keeping with Oaxacan tradition, agave worms are infused to add signature depth.

A Refined Tapestry to Savor

The nose seduces with aromas of roasted agave, dried fruits, a hint of cinnamon, and trailing wood smoke. The palate ventures into layered notes of caramelized stone fruits, dark chocolate, toasted nuts, and agave nectar before resolving into a lingering, lightly smoky finish.

An Authentic Spirit for Sipping or Elevated Cocktails Sip Wahaka Abocado con Gusano neat at room temperature to experience its full tapestry of flavors. It also lends mellow yet complex character to premium cocktails. Embrace the iconic traditions of Oaxaca in this sublime, artfully aged reposado.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
