Bandido de Amores Añejo: The Elegance of French Oak

Bandido de Amores Añejo represents a masterclass in Gildardo Partida's patience and precision. Crafted from 100% estate-grown blue Weber agave, this expression is aged for over one year in premium white French oak barrels. While many añejos lean into the aggressive char of American bourbon wood, Bandido de Amores utilizes the tighter grain of French oak to deliver a more nuanced, floral, and spice-forward profile.

The result is a sophisticated sipping tequila that balances the earthy, cooked agave of the Jalisco highlands with the refined tannins of a world-class barrel program.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: A brilliant, deep golden straw color with shimmering copper highlights and a rich, oily texture that clings to the glass. Aroma: Highly aromatic and complex. It opens with the scent of caramelized agave and raw honey, followed by sophisticated layers of dried orange peel, toasted almond, and a floral hint of jasmine.
  • Palate: The entry is remarkably smooth and medium to full-bodied. It leads with a wave of cooked agave sweetness, quickly unfolding into flavors of dark chocolate, vanilla bean, and a touch of nutmeg. The French oak influence provides a velvety structure without overpowering the spirit's natural brightness.
  • Finish: Long, warm, and exceptionally balanced. It leaves a lingering impression of sweet oak, baking spices, and a final, clean note of herbal agave.

Why It Stands Out

French Oak Distinction: The use of white French oak sets this Añejo apart, offering a silkier mouthfeel and more delicate spice notes than traditional oak aging.

  • Artisanal Heritage: Produced under the meticulous standards of the Partida family, ensuring every bottle reflects three generations of tequilero expertise.
  • Sipping Excellence: While it performs beautifully in a luxury cocktail like an Añejo Old Fashioned, its complexity is best appreciated neat or with a single large ice sphere.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
