Patrón El Alto Reposado

The Pinnacle of Mastery and Aging

Patrón El Alto represents a bold, prestigious entry into the world of luxury spirits. This is not a standard reposado; it is a masterful, high-altitude blend that harmoniously combines Extra Añejo (aged for four years), Añejo, and Reposado tequilas. By meticulously blending these distinct ages, Patrón has created a spirit that possesses the vibrant energy of a younger tequila with the profound depth and sophistication of a rare extra-aged expression.

True to the Patrón legacy, the agave is crushed using the traditional Tahona method, preserving the plant's essence. The spirit then matures in a complex arrangement of 11 different barrel types, most notably hybrid barrels featuring American oak bodies and French oak heads. This innovative maturation environment allows El Alto to achieve an unparalleled level of character and smoothness.

Tasting Notes

  • Color: A radiant, shimmering gold with high viscosity.
  • Nose: A sophisticated and inviting bouquet. Expect initial notes of toasted oak and rich vanilla, followed by layers of dried fruits, light honey, and the earthy sweetness of perfectly roasted agave.
  • Palate: Exceptionally smooth and creamy on the tongue. It delivers a refined symphony of flavors—caramelized sugar and butterscotch give way to subtle hints of ginger and dried apricot. Despite its richness, it remains perfectly balanced and never cloying.
  • Finish: A long, velvet-smooth finish that lingers with the warmth of baking spices and a final, elegant note of sweet oak.

The Art of the Occasion

As an 80-proof (40% ABV) masterpiece, Patrón El Alto is designed for moments of celebration and reflection.

  • The Neat Experience: To fully appreciate the complexity of the 11-barrel aging process, serve El Alto neat in a spirits snifter or a specialized tequila glass at room temperature.
  • The Luxury Gift: Presented in a stunning, tall azure-blue bottle, it serves as the ultimate gift for the discerning tequila aficionado.
  • Modern Pairing: Its naturally sweet, oak-driven profile pairs exquisitely with fine cigars or rich, buttery seafood like grilled lobster.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
