Lost Lore FTR Collaboration Reposado (750 ML)

Crafted at the historic Feliciano Vivanco y Asociados distillery (NOM 1414) in Arandas under the guidance of Master Distiller Sergio Cruz, this special release is a limited-edition partnership with FTR. Proceeds from this bottle support field jimadores with personal protective equipment. Sourced from lower-elevation valley agave, it is open-air fermented to classical music before primary aging in used American white oak whiskey barrels. The defining twist comes from a final finishing with exotic Mizunara (Japanese oak) chips, creating a wildly complex cross-cultural profile bottled at a bold 49% ABV (98 proof).

  • Aroma: A beautiful harmony of sweet cooked agave, raw honey, and warm baking spices, underpinned by the unmistakable sandalwood and subtle coconut notes brought on by the Mizunara oak.
  • Palate: Full-bodied, oily, and assertively warming. The initial rich, caramelized agave and bright citrus transition into a complex mid-palate where vanilla and sweet caramel dance with deep, resinous wood spice.
  • Finish: Long, structured, and dry, leaving a lingering, aromatic trail of sandalwood, dry baking spices, and pure agave warmth.

Cascahuín Plata 48% ABV (750 ml)

Produced at El Cascahuín (NOM 1123) in El Arenal, this high-proof silver is a masterclass in Lowland valley terroir. Distilled very close to proof at 48% ABV (96 proof) using mature estate agave and deep well water, it skips the barrel entirely to deliver the unadulterated essence of traditional Valles production. Revered by purists, it is celebrated for its clean, crisp, and mineral-driven character.

  • Aroma: Intense, vibrant roasted agave jumps out of the glass, followed by earthy notes of rain-soaked clay, cut grass, pungent black pepper, and fresh herbal hints of mint.
  • Palate: Viscous and heavily textured on the tongue. Concentrated, sweet agave flavors are perfectly balanced by a sharp mineral spike, ocean brine, lime oil, and green banana.
  • Finish: Remarkably clean and crisp despite the higher proof, tapering off with a long, dry, black-pepper kick and a punch of natural, rustic agave character.

The Perfect High-Proof Counterpoint

This bundle serves as a phenomenal comparative tasting. On one side, Cascahuín Plata strips the wood entirely away to give you a raw, intense, mineral-forward look at lowland agave, bottled at 96 proof. On the other hand, Lost Lore FTR introduces a masterfully executed 98-proof barrel program that blends classic American whiskey cask notes with the rare aromatic influence of Japanese Mizunara wood. It is an exceptional addition to any collection and a fantastic gift for serious agave lovers.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
