Batanga Tequila Reposado (50ml): The Great Spirit of Tequila

Named after the iconic "Batanga" cocktail created by Don Javier Delgado Corona at La Capilla, this 50ml miniature is a tribute to the authentic flavors of the town of Tequila. Produced at Casa Orendain (NOM 1110), Batanga is crafted using 100% estate-grown Highland agave and traditional methods that prioritize the bold, earthy character of the plant.

This "mini" offers the perfect introduction to a brand known for its integrity and its deep connection to Mexican bar culture.

The Craft

The Agave: 100% Blue Weber agave, harvested by hand and cooked in traditional brick ovens to develop deep, caramelized sugars.

  • The Fermentation: Batanga utilizes a unique yeast strain and a slow fermentation process that preserves the bright, citrusy notes of the agave.
  • The Aging: This Reposado is rested in charred American White Oak barrels for several months. The result is a spirit that maintains its "Highland" energy while gaining a sophisticated layer of wood-driven warmth.

Tasting Notes

  • Aroma: An inviting balance of fresh and cooked agave, followed by soft notes of vanilla, toasted oak, and a hint of black pepper.
  • Palate: Medium-bodied and approachable. Initial flavors of sweet agave and honey are complemented by a gentle spice and a touch of creamy caramel. There is a distinct mineral quality that keeps the palate crisp.
  • Finish: Smooth and clean, with a lingering warmth of cinnamon and light oak tannins.

The Experience

The 50ml Batanga Reposado is the ultimate "pocket-sized" premium spirit. It is the ideal choice for:

  • The Perfect Batanga: Just enough for a single, authentic cocktail (tequila, fresh lime, and cola in a salt-rimmed glass, stirred with a knife).
  • Taste Testing: A low-stakes way to discover why this brand is a favorite among professional bartenders.
  • Gifting: A high-quality addition to gift baskets or a sophisticated "stocking stuffer" for the agave enthusiast.

Salúd!

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
