Viva Mexico "World Edition" High Proof Tequila Blanco

Crafted by the Vivanco family at Destilería El Ranchito (NOM 1414) in Arandas, Jalisco, Viva Mexico "World Edition" High Proof Tequila Blanco is a limited-edition high-proof expression. Bottled at 48% ABV (96 proof) as an homage to the 48 nations competing in the 2026 World Cup, this release showcases traditional highland production methods under Master Distiller Sergio Cruz.

Slow-roasted in traditional brick ovens and distilled using deep well water, the liquid relies on a three-yeast strain fermentation process, capturing intense agave character and rich highland minerality directly from the copper pot still.

Production Details

  • Distillery: NOM 1414 / Destilería El Ranchito (Arandas, Los Altos de Jalisco)
  • Agave: 100% Estate-Grown Blue Weber
  • Proof: 48% ABV / 96 Proof
  • Crafting: Brick oven roasted, multi-strain open fermentation, copper pot distilled, additive-free

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Crystal clear with high viscosity and long, clinging legs along the glass.
  • Nose: Explosive cooked agave upfront, followed by bright citrus zest (lime peel, grapefruit) and crisp green apple. Earthy minerality, wet stone, and subtle herbal notes of mint, rosemary, and white pepper cut through the high-proof warmth.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and viscous. Deep, natural agave sweetness coats the mouth alongside baking spice, cinnamon, and cracked black pepper. Citrus oil and green garden herbs balance the elevated alcohol, providing intense flavor integration without harsh burn.
  • Finish: Long, warm, and structured. Lingering cooked agave fades into dry minerality, persistent pepper spice, and a clean, refreshing hit of sweet mint.

Best enjoyed neat in a spirits glass to allow the high-proof aromas to open, or with a single large ice cube to soften the proof and release sweeter fruit and agave notes.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
