2020 Domaine Vincent Dauvissat Chablis (750ml)

Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy, France Domaine Vincent Dauvissat stands as an undisputed titan of Burgundy, consistently crafting the absolute benchmark expressions of the Chablis appellation. The 2020 vintage is a masterclass in tension, power, and classic Chablisien typicity. Sourced from cooler vineyard sites, a crucial advantage in recent warm growing seasons, this exceptional white Burgundy balances incredible concentration with a chiseled, vibrant energy.

Fermented and aged in traditional oak barrels that impart texture and complexity without masking the fruit, this tightly coiled Chardonnay is built for longevity. It is an explosive, deeply incisive bottle that effortlessly demonstrates why Dauvissat remains the ultimate reference point for pure, mineral-driven white wine.

Critical Acclaim

  • 92 Points, Wine Advocate: "Bursts with aromas of crisp green apple, white flowers, wet stones, oyster shell and struck match... taut and racy, it's deep and incisive, with impeccable Chablisien credentials."
  • 93 Points, Decanter: "A fine Chablis which manages to be both powerful and concentrated, yet still retains a lovely lift. Plenty of acidity and distinctive mineral flavours..."
  • 92 Points, James Suckling: "Subdued and tightly coiled for the vintage and yet explosive on the palate... Excellent Chablis of chiseled length and notable concentration."
  • 91 Points, Wine Spectator: "Backed by brisk acidity, a vanilla note graces the peach, green plum, honey, floral and mineral flavors... leaves a succulent impression on the mouthwatering finish."

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: An intense, classic bouquet that bursts forward with crisp green apple, Asian pear, and white floral notes. Elegant undertones of crushed oyster shells, struck match, anise, and a subtle, refined nuttiness give way to a delicate touch of honey.
  • Palate: Medium to full-bodied, yet taut and race-ready. The palate entry is concentrated and explosive, driving a succulent wave of peach, green plum, and spiced, confit lemon across the tongue. A faint hint of vanilla complexity plays against a chiseled backbone of brilliant, mouthwatering acidity.
  • Finish: Exceedingly long, structured, and deep. It concludes with an incisive, intensely mineral drive of wet stone and salinity that leaves a beautifully clean, persistent, and succulent impression.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
