Tepozan Tequila Blanco
Tepozan Tequila Blanco is a masterclass in "farm-to-glass" purity. Produced at NOM 1584 in the highlands of San Julián, Jalisco, this estate-grown tequila is the lifework of Maestro Tequilero Don Carlos Padilla. The distillery’s location was famously chosen with a divining rod, which revealed a volcanic mineral spring 450 meters underground, whose water now serves as the soul of the spirit.
Tasting Notes
- Aroma: A vibrant and clean opening of freshly harvested herbs and cooked agave. Bright citrus notes of lemon zest and lime peel are balanced by a delicate floral hint of honeysuckle and a savory touch of fresh sea spray.
- Palate: The mouthfeel is surprisingly weighty and silky for a blanco. It features a harmonious blend of green peppercorn, sweet cream butter, and pippin apple. High-toned vegetal notes of poblano pepper and cilantro provide a sophisticated, "field-to-glass" complexity.
- Finish: A remarkably smooth and crisp finish. It leaves a lingering warmth characterized by baking spices (cinnamon and star anise) and a clean, stony minerality that reflects its volcanic water source.
The Butterfly Connection:
The name "Tepozan" refers to the Buddleja cordata (Butterfly Bush), a native of the region. Local legend says the tree only grows where there is gold in the soil, symbolizing the "liquid gold" produced within the distillery walls.
Best Enjoyed:
This is a versatile blanco. It is elegant enough to be sipped neat or slightly chilled, yet its high-toned mineral profile makes it a standout base for a premium Ranch Water or a classic Margarita.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?
Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.
Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.
One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.
Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.
In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
