Tepozán Tequila Añejo
The Tepozán Añejo is a premium, estate-grown tequila crafted by Maestro Tequilero Carlos Padilla in San Julián, Jalisco (Los Altos). This expression is considered a "farm to glass" spirit, fully grown, processed, and hand-bottled at the source using organic methods.
The process uses single-estate, organically cultivated Blue Weber agave, which is cooked for two days in a traditional stone-and-brick oven. Fermentation occurs with wild, ambient local yeasts and well water from a deep volcanic spring beneath the estate. The resulting tequila is twice distilled in stainless-steel pot stills.
Aging
The Añejo is aged for 14 months in Kentucky White Oak Bourbon Barrels, resulting in a balanced profile that preserves the agave's vibrancy while adding complexity from the barrel.
Tasting Notes
- Aroma: Velvety aromas of mature grain laced with vanilla, combined with creamy oak, cinnamon, butterscotch, and notes of Jamaica flower. There is a bold mix of jalapeño and agave nectar with a grassy hint.
- Palate: Full-flavored and complex, with rolling waves of flavor. Notes include caramelized agave, honey, baking spices, and butterscotch. Savory and spicy elements include serrano pepper (chiles), basil, turmeric, damp garden soil, and a touch of ancho chili.
- Finish: A notable, long, and mouthwatering finish. It is laced with vanilla, clove, and white pepper, and a distinctive final note of toasted cinnamon and described as slightly oily and very pleasant.
An elegant and additive-free Añejo that balances the vibrancy of the agave with the richness of a bourbon barrel finish.
