Smoke Label Smoked Tequila Blanco

 40% ABV

Smoke Label Smoked Tequila Blanco is a bridge between the crisp, traditional world of tequila and the soul-stirring smoke of mezcal. Inspired by ancestral methods, this spirit is designed for those who appreciate the bright profile of a Highland Blanco but crave the depth of a smoky finish. Unlike many modern tequilas that use industrial autoclaves or diffusers, Smoke Label relies on an artisan-crafted process that prioritizes natural ingredients and non-GMO Blue Weber agave grown to maturity in the lowlands of Jalisco.

The defining characteristic of Smoke Label is its "ancestral" smoking process—a method utilized by fewer than 1% of modern tequila makers. The agave piñas are slow-smoked in a handmade stone enclave (an earthen oven) over a fire of reclaimed wood and lava rock. This allows the agave to absorb a delicate, smoky bouquet before it ever hits the still. The juice is then double-distilled with pure spring water from the Cienega region, ensuring the final Blanco remains clean, additive-free, and purely expressive of the plant.

Tasting Notes

  • Aroma: A sophisticated and clean smoky bouquet that doesn't overpower. It opens with sweet cooked agave and bright citrus, layered over notes of wood fire, charred stone, and a whisper of vanilla.
  • Palate: The mouthfeel is smooth and subtly sweet. It leads with the mineral-rich earthiness of the Jalisco lowlands, followed by a mid-palate of fresh agave and a hint of creamy vanilla. The smoke is integrated and elegant rather than acrid.
  • Finish: Crisp and refreshing with a lingering, gentle hint of woodsmoke and a clean mineral snap.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
