Postumo Reposado Tequila
Postumo Reposado is an exceptional artisanal tequila crafted by master distiller Alfredo Pelayo Brambilo and Jaime Ortega. Rejecting industrialization, they create this small-batch spirit at Casa di Piedra Distillery in El Arenal, Jalisco. Named in honor of the agave plant that gives its life to the spirit, Postumo embodies a deep respect for tradition and quality.
This Reposado is made from 100% Blue Weber Agave, slow-cooked in traditional brick ovens and fermented with native yeasts. It is then aged for a minimum of two months in American oak barrels, a process that imparts a rich, golden color and a complex flavor profile while preserving the vibrant character of the agave.
Tasting Notes
- Color: A warm, brilliant gold with rich amber tones.
- Aroma: A delicate and complex nose that balances sweet and spicy notes. Initial aromas of roasted agave are complemented by hints of caramel fudge, vanilla, and a warm spice that hints at cinnamon.
- Palate: The flavor is bold, yet remarkably smooth and silky. A prominent taste of roasted agave gives way to layers of sweet tropical fruit, vanilla, and brown spices. The contribution from the wood is evident in a pleasing silkiness and notes of caramel and tobacco that add depth.
- Finish: The finish is long and spicy, with a satisfying warmth that lingers on the palate. The balance of soft, fruity notes and the subtle dryness from the oak makes for a smooth, inviting conclusion.
Postumo Reposado is a versatile spirit, perfect for sipping neat to appreciate its full character or as a premium base for a well-crafted cocktail. It is a testament to the art of traditional tequila-making.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?
Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.
Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.
One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.
Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.
In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
