Patrón Cristalino Añejo Tequila

The Smoothness of Age. The Clarity of Spirit.

Patrón Cristalino is a masterful fusion of tradition and modern innovation. While many tequilas choose a side, the vibrant agave bite of a Blanco or the woody richness of an Añejo, Patrón Cristalino delivers both. This ultra-premium spirit begins as an Añejo (aged in four distinct oak casks for 12 to 15 months). Then it undergoes a specialized wood charcoal filtration that removes color while preserving the complex, barrel-aged character.

This 375ml bottle is the perfect size for exploring the "Cristalino" category or for gifting a taste of top-tier craftsmanship.

The Process: Complexity Filtered to Perfection

  • The Aging: The base liquid is a blend of tequilas matured in casks made from New French Oak, American Oak, and Hungarian Oak.
  • The Filtration: Using a proprietary charcoal filtration method, Patrón’s master distillers strip away the amber pigment and heavy tannins, resulting in a "crystal-clear" liquid that retains the silky mouthfeel of a long-aged spirit.
  • Heritage: Handcrafted in small batches at Hacienda Patrón in Jalisco, using only the finest 100% Weber Blue Agave.

Tasting Notes

  • Aroma: Soft and inviting. Delicate notes of creamy vanilla and butterscotch are balanced by hints of citrus, light oak, and a "toasty" cooked agave sweetness.
  • Palate: Exceptionally silky and medium-bodied. The entry is sweet and smooth, featuring flavors of honey, baked pineapple bread, and caramelized agave. Mid-palate, you'll find subtle nuances of almond and warm cinnamon.
  • Finish: Crisp, clean, and remarkably short for an aged spirit. It leaves a faint, sweet trail of oak and black pepper without any harsh "bite."

Why It Stands Out

Patrón Cristalino is designed for the "elevated" sipper. It offers the depth of an Añejo, but with a lighter, more refreshing profile, perfect for warmer weather. Because the heavy oak tannins have been filtered out, it is arguably the smoothest expression in the entire Patrón portfolio.

Serving Suggestion:

Enjoy it neat to appreciate the texture, or on a large rock with a twist of grapefruit to highlight the hidden citrus notes.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
