"True confession: While making Aperol spritzes for party guests on a hot summer afternoon, I secretly sipped this."

Morgan Santa Lucia Highlands Double L Vineyard Off-Dry Riesling 2023

In the heart of the Santa Lucia Highlands, Morgan's Double L Estate Vineyard stands as a beacon of sustainable viticulture. Since its inception in 1997, this meticulously tended site has distinguished itself as the AVA's sole certified organic vineyard. Its strategic northern location and thoughtful north-south row orientation maximize the benefits of sunlight and cooling winds.

This 2021 Double L Dry Riesling embodies artisanal winemaking at its finest. The journey begins with hand-harvested grapes, gently foot-stomped and allowed an overnight maceration to extract maximum flavor. After a delicate pressing, the juice undergoes cold settling. To preserve the wine's vibrant fruit character, fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks under cool conditions, proceeding to completion for a truly dry expression.

Tasting Notes

This Riesling captivates from the first pour.

  • Its graceful bouquet intertwines notes of soothing chamomile, succulent white peach, and delicate apple blossom.
  • On the palate, classic Riesling flavors of crisp green apple and zesty key lime harmonize beautifully with the wine's luxurious aromatics.
  • A backbone of bright acidity accentuates the bone-dry style, making this an exceptionally versatile food wine.

Pair this refreshing Riesling with briny oysters, crisp summer salads, or indulgent soft cheeses for a truly memorable gastronomic experience. Its irresistible charm might just tempt you to sneak a sip while entertaining – we won't tell if you don't!

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
