Manuscrito Tequila Reposado: Chapter 3
Following the narrative of excellence established by Master Distiller Oscar Vazquez Camarena, Chapter 3 of the Manuscrito saga is a sophisticated exploration of Highland agave met with precise oak influence. Produced at El Sabino in Jesús María, Jalisco, this Reposado is crafted for the aficionado who seeks a "tequila-forward" aged spirit that refuses to hide behind wood.
Chapter 3 is born from single-estate Blue Weber agave, slow-roasted in traditional brick ovens and fermented with the agave fibers intact. This method, a hallmark of the Camarena legacy, ensures a rich, textured mouthfeel that serves as the perfect canvas for its time in the barrel.

Tasting Notes
- Appearance: A soft, pale straw color with brilliant clarity. In the glass, it exhibits heavy, slow-moving tears, signaling a high concentration of agave oils and a rich body.
- Aroma: The nose opens with the unmistakable scent of sweet, cooked agave—reminiscent of roasted yams and honey. This is elegantly layered with secondary notes of light vanilla, dried orange peel, and a distinct mineral "rainwater" freshness characteristic of the Jesús María region.
- Palate: On the tongue, Chapter 3 is remarkably silky and viscous. The initial sweetness of caramelized agave is balanced by a gentle peppery spark. As it opens up, subtle flavors of toasted almond and a hint of butterscotch emerge from the American Oak, providing a creamy mid-palate without overshadowing the vegetal heart of the spirit.
- Finish: Clean, medium-long, and warming. The finish leaves a lingering trail of baking spices—cinnamon and nutmeg—finishing with a refreshing, citrusy brightness that cleanses the palate.
The Chapter 3 Character
While Chapter 4 pushes boundaries with high-proof intensity, Chapter 3 is defined by its balance and "drinkability." It is an elegant Reposado that honors the terroir of the Highlands, making it an ideal choice for neat sipping or as the foundation for a premium, agave-centered cocktail.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?
Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.
Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.
One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.
Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.
In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
