This agave spirit, crafted by Master Mezcaleros Daniel and Jesus Navarro, is a product that showcases the family's dedication to traditional techniques and their unique expertise. The green olives, grapefruit, and bell pepper bouquet transforms into tasting notes of brown sugar, licorice, and barley that induce a sense of sensuality, adventure, and luxury.

The Navarro family has been utilizing a unique clay pot still (campanilla) and other ancestral techniques for at least four generations, making them one of the last families to maintain this 400+ year tradition. They were honored by the Governor of San Luis Potosi as a part of the state's cultural patrimony. In 2017 and 2018, they received the first place prize for best wild mezcal at the national encounter of mezcal and mezcaleros in Mexico City.

Since their father passed away, the two brothers have carried on the legacy of crafting some of the most unique and complex spirits on earth. So if you're looking for a mezcal that is expertly crafted with traditional techniques and rich family history, this product by the Navarro family is worth trying.

The Navarro brothers, Daniel and Jesus, carefully select wild Cuerno agave (Salmiana agave) from the desert hills of San Luis Potosi. These agaves are known for their large size and flavorful profile and typically take between 15 to 16 years to mature. With their expertise in traditional techniques and their dedication to sourcing the best ingredients,

Daniel and Jesus craft some of the most unique and complex agave spirits.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
