Tasting Notes:
This premium wine offers immediate pleasure yet promises even greater rewards with time in the cellar:
- Nose: The bouquet is remarkably complete and vivacious, hinting at the exceptional quality of the vintage. Expect an aromatic symphony where the vibrant character of Tempranillo likely takes the lead, offering notes of red and dark berries, potentially intertwined with earthy undertones and a hint of spice. The Merlot will contribute softness and further fruit complexity, while the Cabernet Franc adds aromatic lift with potential notes of herbaceousness and delicate floral hints.
- Palate: A wine that mirrors the aromatic complexity with a rich, layered texture. The dominance of Tempranillo suggests a structure with firm yet well-integrated tannins, supported by the Merlot's roundness and the Cabernet Franc's finesse. Expect a long and evolving finish that speaks to the wine's quality and aging potential.
Drinking Window:
Enjoy this exceptional wine now through the next 12 years, as it continues its beautiful path of evolution in the bottle. Back vintages of this standalone wine are highly sought after, occasionally released to patrons of the estate’s renowned restaurant Lunario, with bottlings dating back to the original 2006 vintage still showing remarkable development.
- Vintage: 2016 Blend: 54% Tempranillo, 34% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc
- Producer: La Lomita Winemaker: Gustavo A. Gonzalez (Mexican)
- Vineyards: Valle de Guadalupe - All grapes were harvested from organically grown estate vines planted in 2009 in soils of decomposed granite mixed with clay and granite boulders.
- Winemaking: The best barrels of the vintage were selected post-fermentation and blended in a small, five-barrel lot. This blend underwent an additional 18 months of aging in premium French Oak barrels before being bottled without filtration. The wine was then aged in the bottle for an additional two years before release. Farming: Organic, sustainable

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?
Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.
Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.
One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.
Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.
In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
