La Venenosa Raicilla Tabernas 750ML - "Tabernas" are small-scale raicilla distilleries that use artisan methods, and their distillers are known as "taberneros." La Venenosa Raicilla Tabernas is a fine line at a price point that can be sipped or used for cocktails.

Each Edition of Tabernas is slightly different.

Raicilla has been produced for over 500 years in the Mexican state of Jalisco, Mexico. Jalisco offers a plethora of agave species, second only to Oaxaca; however, the Tequila made in Jalisco can only be made with blue agave. Raicilla from Jalisco can be made with various agave types scattered across the landscape.

Tasting Notes

This unique spirit offers a captivating tasting experience that will delight casual sippers and mixology enthusiasts. The tasting notes are as follows:

  • Nose: The aroma is dominated by the irresistible scent of key lime pie, with its zesty citrus and creamy sweetness. A subtle hint of sweet cocktail onion adds an intriguing contrast to the bouquet, making for a fascinating and inviting nose.

  • Palate: An interesting sweet aspect emerges upon tasting, characterized by a concentrated burst of sugary vanilla. However, this intense flavor is short-lived as it quickly dissipates, leaving a front-heavy impression on the palate. The finish is quite light, making it a pleasant and easy-to-drink sipper.

This spirit's unique combination of flavors and light finish make it a versatile choice for sipping and mixing. In addition, its intriguing taste profile could serve as the foundation for a creative and refreshing cocktail, appealing to those who enjoy experimenting with new and exciting flavor combinations.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
