Henri Prudhon & Fils Bourgogne Rouge "Les Charmeaux" 2022
A Refined Expression of Saint-Aubin Pinot Noir
Discover the charm and elegance of Burgundy with Henri Prudhon & Fils Bourgogne Rouge "Les Charmeaux" 2022 (750ml). Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, this exquisite cuvée is a testament to the Prudhon family's mastery in coaxing nuanced expressions from the diverse terroirs of Saint-Aubin. Sourced from several parcels totaling approximately 0.7 hectares within the village, "Les Charmeaux" benefits from a unique blend of vine ages—from vibrant 10-year-old vines to established 40-year-old plantings.
The vineyards, characterized by their classic clay and limestone soils, enjoy a rare western exposure in the westernmost sector of Saint-Aubin. This particular orientation imbues the wine with a distinct character. The vinification process is meticulous: the wine is aged for eight months in small oak barrels, crucially without the use of any new oak, allowing the pure fruit and terroir to shine unmasked.
Tasting Notes:
- Aroma: The nose opens with a delicate yet inviting bouquet of fresh red berries, particularly wild cherry and raspberry, intertwined with subtle earthy undertones and a hint of floral violet. As it opens, nuances of the forest floor and a touch of mineral precision emerge, reflecting its Saint-Aubin origins.
- Palate: On the palate, this Bourgogne Rouge is beautifully balanced and remarkably approachable. It offers a core of bright red fruit, with flavors mirroring the nose, complemented by a lovely fresh acidity that provides vibrancy and lift. The tannins are silky and well-integrated, offering a gentle structure without being assertive. There's a delightful linearity and focus that speaks to the quality of the fruit and the absence of dominant new oak.
- Finish: The finish is clean, persistent, and refreshing, leaving a lingering impression of red fruit purity and a subtle, appealing minerality.
The Henri Prudhon & Fils Bourgogne Rouge "Les Charmeaux" 2022 is a superb example of approachable yet sophisticated Burgundy. It's an ideal wine for immediate enjoyment, pairing wonderfully with roasted chicken, mushroom dishes, or soft cheeses, offering a genuine taste of Saint-Aubin elegance.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?
Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.
Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.
One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.
Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.
In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
