Tierra de Ensueño Single Barrel Reposado
This Holiday 2025 limited release is a masterclass in barrel finishing. While most Reposados use seasoned bourbon barrels, this "Batch No. 2" utilizes a "wet" 1st-fill Jamaican Rum cask. The result is a fascinating crossover: the bright, mineral-rich agave profile of the Jalisco Highlands (Los Altos) meets the funky, tropical soul of high-ester Jamaican rum.
Tierra de Ensueño Single Barrel Reposado Batch No. 2 - 2025 Holiday Vintage Production:
- Ultra-limited (Only 234 bottles produced)
- Barrel Details: Barrel #1 of 4; Jamaican Rum Cask (Wet, 1st Fill)
- Aging: 100 Days (Short-aged to preserve vibrant agave character)
- Craftsmanship: Master Distiller Sergio Cruz & Master Blender Oscar Vázquez Camarena
- Origin: NOM 1580, Jesús María, Jalisco (Hacienda El Sabino / El Olvido)
Tasting Notes
- Aroma (Nose): The nose opens with the hallmark cooked agave sweetness of NOM 1580, but it is immediately followed by a tropical wave. You’ll find distinct notes of ripe banana, grilled pineapple, and a hint of Jamaican "hogo" (that savory, fermented funk). Subtle undertones of brown sugar and lime zest round out the bouquet.
- Palate (Mouthfeel): Medium-bodied and buttery. The entry is sweet with molasses and caramelized agave, transitioning into a spicy mid-palate. Because the barrel was "wet," there is a rich toffee and vanilla bean presence that complements the natural mineral brine of the Los Altos terroir.
- Finish: Long and warming. The "wet" cask influence leaves a lingering oak spice and clove finish, balanced by a touch of tropical fruit skin and a clean, peppery snap.
Collector's Note
This specific expression is Additive-Free and focuses on transparency. Since it was aged for exactly 100 days, it sits at the younger end of the Reposado spectrum, ensuring the rum influence acts as a "seasoning" rather than a mask for the high-quality agave.
Serving Suggestion: Given the rum cask influence, this is spectacular when sipped neat, but it also makes a world-class Oaxacan Old Fashioned or a premium Mexican Mule.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?
Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.
Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.
One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.
Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.
In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
