El Tequileño Single Barrel (Twin Peaks) 750ML

Crafted at the historic La Guarreña distillery (NOM 1108) in Tequila, Jalisco, this exclusive single-barrel expression represents a pinnacle of traditional, additive-free production.

Established in 1959 by Don Jorge Salles Cuervo, El Tequileño remains one of the exceptionally rare heritage brands produced entirely at its own dedicated facility. This Barrel Select Reposado is born from 100% estate-grown blue Weber agaves harvested from the mineral-rich highlands of Los Altos.

Distilled double-time in copper pot stills utilizing natural spring water from El Volcán de Tequila, this specific single barrel has been matured to develop an incredibly layered, bespoke character. It beautifully balances the vibrant, sweet profile of highland agave with the complex, warming elements of hand-selected oak aging.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Bright, clean, golden straw with rich, oily legs that cling gracefully to the glass.
  • Aroma: The nose opens with an inviting punch of sweet, deeply caramelized cooked agave, seamlessly intertwined with rich butterscotch, vanilla bean, and a delicate touch of honey. Subtle top notes of crisp green apple, soft citrus peel, and warm baking spices like cinnamon and nutmeg add an elegant, festive complexity.
  • Palate: Creamy and beautifully structured on the tongue. Vibrant flavors of roasted agave and buttery toffee hit the front palate, followed by a sophisticated mid-palate evolution of toasted hazelnut, light oakiness, and warm baking spice. The highland heritage shines through with faint herbal undertones of lemongrass and anise.
  • Finish: Long, clean, and satisfyingly warm. A subtle barrel spice and a classic crack of black pepper balance the natural sweetness, leaving a lingering impression of sweet cooked agave, dry oak, and soft vanilla.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
