Dixeebe Mexicano Mezcal 375ml

A Powerful and Vibrant Expression of Oaxacan Terroir Dixeebe Mexicano is a rare and captivating mezcal that embodies the wild and untamed spirit of Oaxaca. Crafted by the esteemed Maestro Mezcalero Valentin Cortés in Santiago Matatlán, this exceptional spirit is made from the magnificent Agave Mexicano, also known as Agave Rhodacantha. This agave is celebrated for its rich, complex character and is a true representative of the unique terroir of the Sierra Sur region, where it grows wild at high altitudes.

The name "Dixeebe," a sacred Zapotec word meaning "gratitude" and "love," is a fitting tribute to the deep respect the Cortés family has for their craft and the land. Each 375ml bottle is an act of "dixeebe"—a celebration of tradition, an homage to the ancestors, and a pure expression of the agave's soul.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: A powerful and complex aroma that immediately draws you in. The nose is dominated by a beautiful blend of floral, fruit, and mineral notes. You'll find scents of fresh-cut grass, ripe passion fruit, and a subtle but distinct salinity. Hints of mint, white pepper, and a sweet, creamy character reminiscent of crème brûlée round out the aromatic profile.
  • Palate: The first sip is a revelation—a vibrant, full-bodied, and incredibly smooth experience. The palate delivers a cascade of flavors, including tangy green apple, sweet melon, and a pronounced minerality akin to wet stone. As it evolves, notes of roasted agave, fresh herbs like rosemary and thyme, and a hint of smoky cinnamon spice emerge. The texture is silky, with a beautiful balance between sweetness and a refreshing acidity.
  • Finish: The finish is long, clean, and satisfying, leaving a lasting impression of the agave's wild nature. A pleasant warmth lingers, accompanied by echoes of green pepper, spearmint, and a lingering floral sweetness. The Mexicano's unique character shines through, making for a truly memorable and highly sought-after mezcal.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
