Division Wine Co. Nouveau Nouveau Oregon Gamay 2024

A Jubilant Celebration of Harvest's Finale - The Thirteenth Vintage of Pure Joy

The winemakers at Division pay homage to a time-honored tradition with their thirteenth vintage of Nouveau Nouveau. This wine is more than just a vintage, it is a spirited celebration, crafted in the exuberant tradition of Beaujolais to mark the year's first release. It embodies the pure, unpretentious joy of harvest's end, inviting enthusiasts to drink, not think.

Sourced entirely from the high-elevation Carousel Vineyard in Washington’s Yakima Valley, this Gamay Noir is an Oregonian take on a classic French ritual. Released on the third Thursday of November, this is a wine made for immediate enjoyment, gathering, and toasting to the culmination of a year's hard work. Unfined, unfiltered, and wonderfully fresh, the Nouveau Nouveau captures the essence of friendliness: light, fresh, and irresistibly fruity.

Tasting Notes

  • Color: A vibrant, luminous ruby with bright purple edges.
  • Aroma: An explosion of fresh red fruit—leading with bright notes of crushed raspberry, tart cranberry, and juicy Bing cherry. Underlying hints of pink bubblegum and newly tilled earth hint at its Nouveau style.
  • Palate: Wonderfully light and zippy, with a playful freshness that dances on the tongue. Flavors mirror the aroma, featuring a surge of red currant and pomegranate. It is wonderfully unpretentious and fruit-driven, with no oak to mask the purity of the Gamay.
  • Finish: Clean, short, and exhilaratingly fresh. The finish leaves a quenching note of bright acidity, making it highly chuggable and ready for the next sip.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
