Claque-Pepin 10 Year Old Organic Calvados

Step into the heart of Normandy with Claque-Pepin 10 Year Old Organic Calvados. This exquisite, certified organic apple brandy is a beautiful testament to traditional craftsmanship, blending the fresh vibrancy of young spirit with the mellow depth of a decade in French oak barrels.

The name Claque-Pepin—meaning "rattling seeds"—pays homage to an apple variety that rattles when ripe, reflecting the authenticity and natural origin of this spirit.

Aged for a minimum of ten years, this Calvados achieves a remarkable balance, offering complexity and finesse while remaining distinctly apple-forward.

Tasting Notes

  • Color: A deep, warm copper or rich amber hue.
  • Aroma: Rich and inviting, leading with concentrated notes of caramel and baking spice (cinnamon, clove). Classic aromas of baked apple and poached pear mingle with subtle undertones of vanilla, toasted nuts (hazelnut, walnut), and a gentle floral or violet hint.
  • Palate: Deeper, rounder, and voluptuous than younger expressions. The entry is smooth, revealing complex layers of toffee-drizzled baked pear, brown sugar, and caramelized apple pie. Oak notes of leather and a hint of cocoa or dark chocolate provide structure, balanced by a lightening hint of citrus peel (lemon or orange rind).
  • Finish: Long, warming, and refined. It concludes with lingering, sweet notes of salted caramel, allspice, and a final, satisfying fade of baked fruit and warm cinnamon. Exceptionally smooth and well-integrated.
  • Suggested Serve: The ideal post-dinner digestif, served neat in a tulip glass. Also a brilliant, high-quality component for classic cocktails like the Jack Rose or a premium Sidecar.

Appellation: Calvados AOC (Pays d'Auge and Domfrontais influence)

Age: Minimum 10 Years Old | Feature: Certified Organic

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
