Boato 72 Month Aged Extra Añejo Lowland Tequila

Embrace the peak of aged tequila luxury with the Boato 72 Month Extra Añejo. This exceptional, limited-edition spirit is the ultimate expression of the Extra Añejo category, having been meticulously aged for six full years (72 months), far beyond the legal minimum of three years. Crafted by the passionate father-son duo, Alejandro & Isaac Gudiño, the name "Boato" (meaning ostentation and noble opulence) perfectly captures the spirit within this bottle.

Sourced from the mineral-rich, often more robust agave of the Lowlands (Tequila Valley), this tequila undergoes a dual-cask maturation process for unparalleled complexity:

  • 3 Years in American Ex-Bourbon barrels.
  • 3 Years in European Red Wine barrels.

This extended, dual-barrel aging delivers a depth and smoothness that rivals the world's finest whiskies and cognacs while retaining a whisper of its pure agave heart.

With only 999 bottles made, this Extra Añejo is reserved for those who appreciate the ultimate dedication to time and quality.

Tasting Notes

  • ColorDeep, dark mahogany and copper-amber, reflecting its extensive time in two types of oak.AromaRich, decadent notes of dark chocolate, vanilla bean, and caramelized orange zest. The influence of red wine barrels introduces a sophisticated layer of dried spices and soft, old leather.
  • Palate: Bold and full-bodied with a velvety, mouth-coating texture. An intense wave of heavy toasted oak and dried fruits (like raisin and fig) is met with notes of baking spice, almond, and the signature Lowlands minerality—though heavily mellowed by the aging.
  • Finish: Exceptionally long and luxurious. It evolves with a persistent warmth, leaving behind a memorable echo of tobacco, dark cocoa, and sweet wood.

This is a true sipping experience, best enjoyed neat alongside a late-afternoon cigar or in the company of thoughtful friends.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
