Alma del Jaguar Tequila Añejo - Mizunara Oak Cask Finish

Presenting a true innovation in the world of tequila: the Alma del Jaguar Tequila Añejo, the first-ever Añejo aged in Mizunara oak. This special release from the "Barricas" series is a celebration of unique cask finishes, showcasing the rare and exquisite character of Japanese Mizunara oak. This exclusive spirit is aged in virgin, toasted Japanese Mizunara oak, one of the rarest and most sought-after oaks in the world. Known as "water oak," Mizunara's unique properties—including its porous nature and slim, twisted branches—make it particularly challenging to work with. Still, it imparts a truly one-of-a-kind flavor profile.

Tasting Notes:

  • Aroma: The initial aroma is a captivating and exotic fusion. Fragrant notes of sandalwood and delicate Japanese incense immediately transport you, followed by a sweet and floral bouquet of honeysuckle and jasmine. A warm undercurrent of sweet honey and rich vanilla rounds out the intricate nose.
  • Palate: The first sip reveals a silky and full-bodied texture. A medley of nuanced flavors beautifully complements the classic, earthy sweetness of cooked agave. Creamy coconut and sweet vanilla lead into a refined spiciness with hints of exotic tea and other delicate spices. The distinct character of the Mizunara oak shines through, adding a layer of sophisticated warmth and complexity.
  • Finish: The finish is exceptionally long and elegant. The notes of sandalwood and Japanese incense linger gracefully, leaving a warm, clean sensation on the palate. A final whisper of sweet honey and delicate jasmine provides a memorable and enchanting conclusion to this remarkable spirit.

This Tequila Añejo is a bold and successful marriage of traditional Mexican craftsmanship with the ancient, exotic influence of Japanese Mizunara oak. It is a one-of-a-kind spirit that promises an incredible journey for the senses.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
