Alma Del Jaguar Tequila Añejo

High Proof 102.4 - Single Barrel #19

Experience the unparalleled depth of Alma Del Jaguar Tequila Añejo High Proof 102.4, an exceptional single barrel expression (Barrel #19) crafted on a 5th-generation estate in the revered Los Altos de Jalisco. This tequila embodies purity, made with only agave, water, and yeast, and bottled unfiltered by hand at the source.

Aged for a remarkable 23 months in a combination of French and American White Oak barrels, this Añejo is bottled at a robust 51.2% ABV (102.4 Proof), delivering an intense and complex experience.

This tequila harmoniously blends two distinct styles: one fermented with wild yeast and the other with champagne yeast, resulting in a captivating mix of bold flavors and subtle sweetness. Inspired by a deep commitment to conservation, Alma Del Jaguar directly supports the Northern Jaguar Project, helping to protect these majestic animals and their natural habitats.

Tasting Notes:

  • Aroma: Rich and inviting, with prominent notes of cooked agave layered with warm vanilla, toasted oak, and hints of dark chocolate or dried fruit from the extensive barrel aging. Subtle spice notes, possibly nutmeg or cinnamon, may also emerge.
  • Taste: A powerful yet remarkably smooth entry, showcasing the high proof beautifully without harshness. Expect a delightful interplay of sweet agave, rich caramel, baking spices, and a nuanced fruitiness from the oak. The influence of both French and American oak should provide layers of complexity, possibly revealing nutty or even a faint coffee note.
  • Body: Full-bodied and velvety, coating the palate with a luxurious texture.
  • Finish: Exceptionally long and warm, with lingering notes of sweet cooked agave, elegant oak, and a subtle spice that invites further exploration. The high proof contributes to a memorable and evolving finish.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
