5 Sentidos Puntas: A Wild Oaxacan Symphony

Embark on a sensory journey to the heart of Oaxaca's rugged El Nanche mountains with 5 Sentidos Puntas, a testament to the untamed spirit of the region's Espadin agave. Crafted by the esteemed mezcaleros Eleuterio and Eduardo Perez, this small-batch agave spirit embodies generations of artisanal tradition.

Sourced from mature Espadin piñas harvested at their peak, each agave heart undergoes a meticulous process, beginning with slow roasting in conical earthen pits fueled by blazing oak. This ancient technique imparts a distinct smokiness and concentrates the agave's richness. The roasted agave is then crushed using a traditional tahona stone, followed by a lengthy natural fermentation. Finally, the fermented mash is distilled in hand-beaten copper stills, resulting in a pure and powerful spirit.

5 Sentidos Puntas is presented in its unadulterated form, free from any additives, allowing the true character of the agave to shine through.

Tasting Notes:

  • Aroma: An intense and captivating bouquet of charred mesquite and smoky oak intertwined with fresh herbal notes, hints of wild tropical fruits (such as pineapple and guava), and a deep, earthy agave presence.
  • Palate: A robust and assertive palate, delivering a complex interplay of flavors. The initial smokiness refers to notes of cooked agave, roasted herbs, and a subtle sweetness from wild fruits. A distinct minerality and earthy undertone add depth and complexity.
  • Finish: A long and lingering finish, leaving a warm, smoky sensation with echoes of roasted agave, herbs, and a lingering earthiness. It's a powerful and memorable experience, reflective of the terroir.

5 Sentidos Puntas is more than just an agave spirit; it's a connection to Oaxaca's ancient traditions and untamed landscapes. Each sip is a testament to the passion and artistry of the master mezcaleros, offering a rare and profound glimpse into the soul of Mexico's agave wilds. This is a spirit for those seeking agave's true, unfiltered essence.

Why is beer available as in-store pick-up only?

Our temperature-controlled storage systems preserve beer's quality and flavor until pickup. By maintaining precise refrigeration, we protect each batch's unique characteristics and ensure customers receive the freshest possible product.

However, due to the challenges of maintaining consistent temperature during shipping, we exclusively offer in-store pickup for our craft beers.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
