Oude Rhubarbe Tilquin à l'Ancienne Gueuzerie Tilquin Lambic (6.3% ABV)

Experience a unique and vibrant expression of traditional Belgian lambic with Oude Rhubarbe Tilquin à l'Ancienne. Crafted by the esteemed Gueuzerie Tilquin, this exceptional fruit lambic results from fermenting a generous 240 grams of fresh, locally sourced rhubarb per liter of their meticulously blended lambic. The rhubarb, cultivated by Ferme de la Bosse Jauque, imparts a distinctive tartness and fruity character to this unfiltered and unpasteurized delight.   Tilquin's commitment to traditional methods is evident in every sip.

This Oude Rhubarbe is a blend of one, two, and three-year-old lambics, spontaneously fermented with wild yeasts and aged in oak barrels. Adding fresh rhubarb during fermentation creates a harmonious marriage of the lambic's inherent complexity and the fruit's bright acidity. Secondary fermentation in the bottle yields a natural carbonation and allows the flavors to integrate further and evolve.

Tasting Notes:

  • Pouring a hazy, rosy-orange hue with a delicate white head that dissipates quickly, the Oude Rhubarbe Tilquin à l'Ancienne immediately captivates with its inviting aroma.
  • The nose is dominated by the unmistakable tart and slightly earthy fragrance of fresh rhubarb. This vibrant fruit note is beautifully interwoven with the classic barnyard funk and subtle lactic sourness characteristic of Tilquin's lambics. Hints of lemon zest, a touch of hay, and a delicate floral undertone add complexity to the bouquet.
  • On the palate, the Oude Rhubarbe delivers a refreshing and intensely flavorful experience. The initial tartness of the rhubarb is prominent but balanced by a surprising softness and roundness from the aged lambic. The lambic's earthy and slightly acidic backbone complements the fruit's inherent tanginess. Notes of stewed rhubarb, a hint of citrus peel, and a subtle mineral character unfold with each sip.
  • The lively carbonation provides a crisp and cleansing mouthfeel, leading to a long and satisfyingly tart finish with a lingering fruity sweetness.

This Oude Rhubarbe is a testament to the innovative spirit and traditional craftsmanship of Gueuzerie Tilquin. The generous use of fresh, local rhubarb creates a distinctly fruity and authentically complex lambic. It's a perfect pairing for fruit tarts, creamy cheeses, or enjoyed as a unique and refreshing aperitif.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is all your inventory online?

We try to keep the store as updated as possible, but we always get new shipments. So if you don't see what you are looking for, send an email, and we'll check to see what Moose is hiding in the back room.

Why is beer available as in-store pick-up only?

Our temperature-controlled storage systems preserve beer's quality and flavor until pickup. By maintaining precise refrigeration, we protect each batch's unique characteristics and ensure customers receive the freshest possible product.

However, due to the challenges of maintaining consistent temperature during shipping, we exclusively offer in-store pickup for our craft beers.

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
