Alvarado Street Waimea Skaze New Zealand Hopped Hazy IPA

Prepare to get lost in the "Skaze" with Alvarado Street Brewery's latest Hazy IPA masterpiece, exploding with the vibrant character of New Zealand hops! At a robust 7.0% ABV, this 16oz can of pure liquid artistry is "chock full of one of our favorite hops: Waimea." Known for its incredible turbidity magic when paired with expressive yeast strains, Waimea truly reigns supreme, delivering a beer where "the haze factor is off the charts and the mouthfeel is downright lavish."

Tasting Notes:

  • Appearance: Pours a mesmerizing, opaque, and incredibly dense "Skaze"—a truly turbid, glowing golden-orange, hinting at the juicy explosion within. Aroma: The nose is immediately hit with a tropical fruit bomb: vibrant pineapple, ripe papaya, and a bright, zesty burst of pulpy orange juice. As it opens up, subtle undertones of sweet apricot jam emerge, inviting a deeper dive.
  • Palate: The first sip confirms the lavish mouthfeel – it's incredibly soft, pillowy, and full-bodied. The fruit notes from the aroma explode on the palate: juicy pineapple, sweet papaya, and fresh-squeezed orange juice lead the charge. The apricot jam sweetness adds a delightful richness.
  • Subtle Intrigue: Just beneath the tropical fanfare, delicate hints of honeydew melon, bright lime zest, and a intriguing earthy "diesel" note provide complexity and a well-structured counterpoint, preventing the fruit from becoming overwhelming.
  • Finish: Smooth and immensely satisfying, with lingering tropical fruit flavors that gradually fade into a gentle, refreshing hop bitterness, leaving you craving another luxurious sip.

Alvarado Street Waimea Skaze is a masterclass in hazy IPA brewing, showcasing the incredible potential of New Zealand Waimea hops. It’s a juicy, aromatic, and incredibly drinkable brew that will have you happily lost in its "Skaze." Don't miss this limited release!

What is the difference between Tequila & Mezcal?

Tequila is a type of mezcal, much like how scotch and bourbon are types of whiskey.

Tequila and mezcal are both types of agave-based spirits that are popular in Mexico, but there are some key differences between the two. Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave plant, which is primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, about 40 miles northwest of Guadalajara. Mezcal, on the other hand, can be made from any type of agave plant, and is often made using traditional, labor-intensive methods.

One of the most noticeable differences between tequila and mezcal is their flavor. Tequila is typically smooth and subtle, with hints of fruit and spices, while mezcal has a more complex, smoky flavor that comes from the roasting of the agave hearts before they are fermented and distilled.

Another difference between the two spirits is their production process. Tequila is typically made using modern industrial methods, while mezcal is often produced using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. This can give mezcal a more authentic, artisanal character.

In general, tequila is considered to be a more refined and sophisticated spirit, while mezcal is often viewed as a more rustic and traditional drink. Both are popular in Mexico and are enjoyed around the world, so the best way to decide which one you like is to try them both and see which one suits your tastes.
